Home and Business Security Fences: Buying, Maintaining and Improving

Welcome to my blog on fences. My name is Penny, and a few years ago, my business was broken into. Luckily, no one was there so no one was hurt, but it made my personal sense of security feel threatened, and there was a lot of property damage. As a result of that experience, I have spent a lot of time researching safety methods. I have learned about everything from locks to fences, but I plan to focus on the latter in this space. I hope these posts and ideas help you, your family and your business to be more protected.

Why Is Chain Wire Fencing So Popular?

by Rosa Soler

One of the main reasons that chain-link fencing, or chain wire fencing as it is often called, is so popular is because of its cost-effectiveness. This sort of fencing is relatively cheap to produce and to distribute since it can be rolled up and delivered in large quantities without taking up too much space. For this reason alone, chain-link fencing is likely to be around for many decades to come. There is no simpler fencing system to install that comes with such a low price tag. That said, chain wire fences offer much more than a straightforward cost saving. Why else are they so beneficial? Read on to find out.

Designs For All

Although the standard diamond-shaped design of a chain wire fence is very commonplace, this is not the only look you can obtain from this sort of fencing. Many manufacturers of this sort of fence will provide a galvanised steel finish, for example, but you can also find chain-link fencing that is coated with plastic or paint to give it a particular hue. The wire that is used to form the chain links is also available in various thicknesses and you can accessorise your chain-link fence with optional extras, such as a barbed-wire top, if you wish.

Great Security

One of the main advantages of a fence that is formed from chain wire is that you can see through it. In turn, this means that no one can be on the far side of the fence unobserved. This helps to improve security because patrols or even casual observers will be able to see if anyone is trying to break in. Of course, chain-link fences can be cut but the thicker wire versions are extremely durable and require specialist equipment to get past. When installed at a height of three metres or more, chain-link fences are virtually impossible to climb over, too.

Superb Longevity

Another important aspect of this sort of fencing is that it will last a very long time indeed. What's more, this long lifespan is achieved with virtually no maintenance whatsoever, something that is in stark contrast to a wooden palisade fence, for example. Anyone who is looking for a fence installation that they can forget about once it has been fitted should consider this feature of chain wire fencing. Bear in mind, too, that because wind passes straight through the holes of a chain-link fence that it will never blow down even in stormy conditions.
