Home and Business Security Fences: Buying, Maintaining and Improving

Welcome to my blog on fences. My name is Penny, and a few years ago, my business was broken into. Luckily, no one was there so no one was hurt, but it made my personal sense of security feel threatened, and there was a lot of property damage. As a result of that experience, I have spent a lot of time researching safety methods. I have learned about everything from locks to fences, but I plan to focus on the latter in this space. I hope these posts and ideas help you, your family and your business to be more protected.

Factors To Consider When Choosing Your Fence

by Rosa Soler

The type of fence you choose to erect in your compound should be determined by the intended use of the fence. It is uneconomical and at times inappropriate to have just any type of fence irrespective of your needs. Below are some guidelines you should consider when choosing the best fence for your compound.

Garden Fencing

A garden requires a simple, easy to handle fence. If you're fencing your backyard garden, you can opt for a picket fence or closeboard fence. These fences should be short such that you can view your garden standing, or from your kitchen window. It won't make sense to have a concrete fence or another permanent type of a fence, yet you may want to redesign your garden regularly. You can also choose chain link fencing for your garden. This type of fencing is also simple and easy to erect.

Your garden is part of your compound, either it's at the front or back of your house. Choosing a simple and neat fence will give your compound a lush view. Also, fences such as the picket and simple board fence can be used to create additional borders within your garden without creating a mess.

Temporary versus Permanent Fencing

Permanent fencing such as the construction of concrete fences should be used when needed in the long-run. On the contrary, temporary fences are for creating boundaries and barriers meant to last for a short time. For example, if you are living on leased property, it's advisable to have a temporary fence. However, if you own the premise, either it's your home or business place, then a permanent fence will be a good investment for you.

Pet Fencing

Pet fencing should be safe for pets, and also sufficient to keep pets from crossing the boundary, or getting out of the compound. Ensure your fence is high enough such that your pet, especially dogs cannot climb over and jump. Also, ensure the fence goes deep into the surface or soil because dogs and cats can easily dig their way across the border.

Mesh fencing or chain link fencing is a good option for pet fencing. However, it is important to have the fence curled inwards at the top, such that even if your dog jumps, it cannot jump over the fence. You can also opt for an electric fence. In this case, you should buy the special transmitter collar tied around the neck of your pet. The collar transmits signals once your pet gets close to the electric fence without causing any harm or pain, and helps keep the pet off the fence.

Always identify a durable fence that is most appropriate for its intended use, and consult your fence provider on the best way to install it.
