Home and Business Security Fences: Buying, Maintaining and Improving

Welcome to my blog on fences. My name is Penny, and a few years ago, my business was broken into. Luckily, no one was there so no one was hurt, but it made my personal sense of security feel threatened, and there was a lot of property damage. As a result of that experience, I have spent a lot of time researching safety methods. I have learned about everything from locks to fences, but I plan to focus on the latter in this space. I hope these posts and ideas help you, your family and your business to be more protected.

Quick Tips for Choosing a Railing Style for Your Home Stairs or Balcony

by Rosa Soler

When it comes to the design of your home, you may not give much thought as to the railing style of your home stairs or balcony. However, the balustrades, which refers to the railing and the posts underneath it, are usually more visible and noticeable than you realize. In turn, they affect your home's overall look and décor more than you may know. This is why you need to give some thought as to the design you'll choose when you're remodeling inside the home or need to replace the balustrades on a balcony. Note a few quick tips.

1. Add style, but don't overwhelm

The balustrades of a staircase or balcony are a good opportunity to add some style to your home. Rather than choosing simple posts or bars, why not consider a scrolling design, or something even with your family's initial formed in metal in the middle of the railing? You can add visual interest by choosing something with some detail for your balustrades and keep your staircase and balcony from looking dull.

While adding style is good, you also don't want to overwhelm the space. Remember that bars and posts will be crowded against each other under a rail, so don't choose too much scrollwork for a small staircase or balcony. Instead, have a scrolling design or inset every few bars so you get the style you want without making it seem too busy for a small area.

2. Go modern

If your home has a modern look and décor, you want to choose balustrades that are in keeping with this style. Opt for plain glass panels under the railing, or choose something made out of stamped metal. Aluminum pipes hung horizontally can also be a unique touch that make your staircase fit in with the overall feeling of your modern design. Be sure to choose a metal that matches any metallic elements in your home when opting for this material for your modern balustrade.

3. Think of maintenance and cleaning

If you have children, glass panels may get dirty from fingerprints and require constant cleaning. Very intricate scrollwork can also hold dust. If you don't have a central vacuum system in the home, this means you'll need to dust the staircase quite often and this can be time-consuming. Aluminum might rust for an outside balcony and need to be sanded or replaced. When choosing the design you like, remember to keep in mind the maintenance and cleaning that will be needed according to the material and design, and choose something that gives you the style you want without needing too much maintenance and care.

Once you have decided what type of railing you want, then contact a company like Diamond Balustrades & Fencing Pty Ltd to have it installed.
